Textbook Economics & Credibility
Two items in the news today: one about someone with no standards, and one with just a little bit more...

First, NY Times editorial from Paul Krugman: Senator Bunning's Universe. We won't quote from it, but rather quote, in full, James Taranto's retort in his Best of the Web column:

Former Enron adviser Paul Krugman takes note in his New York Times column of what the calls "the incredible gap that has opened up between the parties":

Today, Democrats and Republicans live in different universes, both intellectually and morally.

"What Democrats believe," he says "is what textbook economics says":

But that's not how Republicans see it. Here's what Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona, the second-ranking Republican in the Senate, had to say when defending Mr. Bunning's position (although not joining his blockade): unemployment relief "doesn't create new jobs. In fact, if anything, continuing to pay people unemployment compensation is a disincentive for them to seek new work."

Krugman scoffs: "To me, that's a bizarre point of view--but then, I don't live in Mr. Kyl's universe."

What does textbook economics have to say about this question? Here is a passage from a textbook called "Macroeconomics":

Public policy designed to help workers who lose their jobs can lead to structural unemployment as an unintended side effect. . . . In other countries, particularly in Europe, benefits are more generous and last longer. The drawback to this generosity is that it reduces a worker's incentive to quickly find a new job. Generous unemployment benefits in some European countries are widely believed to be one of the main causes of "Eurosclerosis," the persistent high unemployment that affects a number of European countries.

So it turns out that what Krugman calls Sen. Kyl's "bizarre point of view" is, in fact, textbook economics. The authors of that textbook are Paul Krugman and Robin Wells. Miss Wells is also known as Mrs. Paul Krugman.

It seems Krugman himself lives in two different universes--the universe of the academic economist and the universe of the bitter partisan columnist. Or maybe this is like that episode of "Star Trek" in which crewmen from the Enterprise switched places with their counterparts from a universe in which everyone was the same, only evil.

Like Spock, the evil Krugman is the one with the beard.

You'd think a smart guy like Krugman would expect someone to find this and thus add a bit of nuance to his column. (Just like you'd expect someone with character and integrity to not even consider doing something like this).

And the second news event from today - From the Washington Post, The Fix:

New York Rep. Eric Massa [D-NY] will resign his House seat on Monday at 5 pm, he said in a statement Friday, a move that comes just days after he announced his plans to retire at the end of the year.

"A member of my staff believed I had made statements that made him feel 'uncomfortable," Massa said in the statement, posted on his House web site. He added, "There is no doubt in my mind I did use language ... that ... might make a Chief Petty Officer feel uncomfortable."

"It's not that I can fight or beat these allegations, I'm guilty." Massa said in a separate statement, to to his Washington and campaign staff, which was reported by his hometown newspaper, the Corning (N.Y.) Leader.

Defeat From Above
Airborne! Our congratulations to fellow Army Reserve Officer Scott Brown on his upset victory over Martha Coakley and the Democratic machine in yesterday's senate election in Massachusetts.

Lessons Learned:

It may take a few days, but Attorney General Coakley should come to the realization that turning a blind eye to an assault in her presence is the wrong choice.

Ignoring a sexual assualt against a 23-month old doesn't help one's political aspirations either.

And why did Obama go to Massachusetts to campaign for Coakley? This was a strategic error on his part, as his visit acknowledged the link between the election and his commie health care plans. The day-after "Coakley screwed up" mantra is falling flat because of Obama's visit.

Another strategic error was to hold his $1 trillion 'stimulus' to buy votes in the Fall elections and not spend some of it this past month in Massachusetts. The GOP, like gun and ammo manufacturers, is experiencing unprecedented enthusiasm with no end in sight. This was an opportunity to slap us down and remind us that envy takes precedence over liberty.

A special Ushanka Tip to Michelle Malkin for keeping tabs on voter fraud yesterday. These single elections give us the ability to shine a very bright light on the ACORN and SEIU shenanigans. Michelle - lets find a way to do the same across all elections this Fall!

Random Thoughts and Predictions:

Why does our president say Health Care Reform legislation is desired by us proletarians when it will supposedly pass with a 60% majority in the senate, but not a 59% majority?

Will the Massachusetts 'independents' lib-out before the November elections? Their track record is grossly lacking. We're grateful for our victory yesterday, but sustaining pro-constitution and pro-limited government enthusiasm isn't a voter trait in that state.

Same question at the national level: Will our fellow tea-partiers hang up their ushankas and consider their job done? This isn't a hypothetical - we've noticed a severe drop in the activities of our local tea-party group.

Same question at the individual level: Will Brown lib-out? We have too many scars caused by the principled-turned-unprincipled. We quote the LT in Starship Troopers to express our feelings toward Brown, Palin and the others that excite us today: "You're it until you're dead, or we find someone better."

Biotech and Pharmaceutical stocks trended upward yesterday on the logical conclusion that their businesses will be better off with Brown in the Senate. Yet, according to Mona Charen, "...Pfizer, Merck, Amgen, Sanofi-Aventis, Eli Lilly, Novartis, AstraZeneca ... Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, HealthSouth and UnitedHealth all were sipping white wine with Coakley" a week ago at a fund raiser for the Democrat. We list these confused companies on purpose. One is a former employer.

Prediction: Obama will sign a health care reform bill. He still has significant majorities and the liberal progressive communist inspirations are too great for all the Democrats lucky enough to still hold office. Agree?

UPDATE 9:40am:

Too sweet!

U/T: Instapundit

We continue to ponder: After the 2006 election, Rumsfeld was out the next day. Bush heard the voters and held Secretary Rumsfeld accountable for the loss of focus in Iraq. Will Obama make any leadership or policy changes after yesterday's senate race, a race that he himself nationalized? Or will the only change be even less transparency?

Massachusetts
So we were ignoring the brohaha in Massachusetts. Just another off-cycle election in the most liberal of states. Then Charles Schumer hits us like a dagger to the heart: Scott Brown is a tea-partier! Well, that changes everything!

At risk of looking foolish 48 hours from now after either Coakley wins, or after Coakely's goons steal the election, here are a couple related videos for your enjoyment.

This one sets the standard. We wish we made it:

It appears from this picture that Scott Brown is someone who can reach across the aisle. Just what America, and Massachusetts, needs in these times of peril.

The Economy is Better than Ever!
(Don't look at the post from earlier today...)

From Fox News:

A GOP lawmaker, in a tense exchange Thursday with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, called on Geithner to resign immediately, blaming him for rising unemployment, growing federal deficits and accounting flaws in the number of stimulus jobs created, among other economic problems.

The request, made at a Joint Economic Committee hearing, sparked an intense and remarkable back-and-forth between Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas, and Geithner, who countered that the economy was in significantly better shape today than it was a year ago when Republicans controlled the White House, a view that was supported by a number of Democrats on the committee.

So if the economy is so much better than it was a year ago, why is President Obama holding a Jobs Summit next month?

"Generous Legal Punishment"
What will happen if one escapes from prison after refusing to purchase Obama's health insurance, or pay his fines?

Date and location modified from this DailyNK story: Summary Execution of a Runaway from the Camp.

The deserter, when he was still a citizen, pursued his own comfort and profit and embezzled the precious property of the state. For that, he was sentenced to six years reeducation and admitted to Tule Lake No.12 Reeducation Camp in 2013. Having committed an indelible sin against the country and its people, it is only right for the prisoner to admit his offense and take on the reeducating labor faithfully.

However, this person challenged the generous legal punishment, filled his stomach through larceny, neglected his duties and finally betrayed the kind mother country that gave him a chance to repent and ran away. He was, however, detected by the self-conscious people of the village and got caught. Therefore, following the decision of the Democratic People’s Republic of America’s Central Reeducation Department, we sentence him to death!

Is this the change we're supposed to believe in?

The Wall That Came Down
20 years ago today. Here are some random items to commemorate the day.

Our movie trailer from last year's campaign. Right prediction, wrong candidate...

From ContraObama:

Doug Ross posts a must-read from an anonymous surviver of communism in Hungary who summarizes: "Citizenship is our birthright, but freedom is not."

SOCIALISM!!!! Seams a perfect, equal system for all, a Shangri-La if you will, not realizing it is nothing but a bridge to Communism, which is total government control! Socialism at its best is corrupt, rotten to the core, a government without overseers! The idea of Socialism is not new in the United States , but it is not openly identified as such in the places it exists. If you live near by, drove through, or happen to live in the projects, you have seen and experienced Socialism in America!

Government housing, government healthcare, government schools, government food stamps, and what you see there is as good as it gets, when the government decides what is good for the people, takes the power out of the hands of the people, and they spread the wealth. Our government imposed full blown Socialism on our inner cities, and in over fifty years hasn’t been able to raise the living standard of those who live there! And look how happy and motivated are those, living in the projects with all that the government is providing for them.

Is that the best we can dream for our children and grandchildren? Is that the America we want to see? I certainly hope not, but that is exactly what the government means when they tell you they want to spread the wealth. They will make us all poor by breaking down our economy, forcing on us taxation on a level never seen before, and if we don’t like it and cause too much difficulty for them, at that point they will have the power to no longer tax us at all, simply take over completely, shut down the borders and impose full blown Communism. Not in America you might say! Think again, look around and see how much we lost just in the last year!

Today's WSJ Editorial Page:

And there was Ronald Reagan, who believed the job of Western statesmanship was to muster the moral, political, economic and military wherewithal not simply to contain the Soviet bloc, but to bury it. "What I am describing now is a plan and a hope for the long term—the march of freedom and democracy which will leave Marxism-Leninism on the ash-heap of history," he said in 1982, to the astonishment and derision of his critics. Now, there was the audacity of hope.
---
It is a tribute to Reagan's moral and strategic determination, as it was to everyone else who played their part in bringing down the Wall, that they could see through the sophistries of Soviet propagandists, their Western fellow travelers, and the legions of moral equivocators and diplomatic finessers and simply look at the Wall.

"To see what is in front of one's nose needs a constant struggle," George Orwell once said. That is what the heroes of 1989 did with unblinking honesty and courage for years on end until, at last, the Wall came tumbling down.

How's that Hope and Change working out for you?

Here is a screen shot of our survey from today. Says it all, don't you think?

On the bright side: at least "we came back from the brink" and that we're in a "jobless recovery".

As Rush has mentioned, it is easier to get socialized medicine passed when more and more Americans are losing their coverage along with their jobs. It is as if this was all planned....

Election 2009
Last night's election results were fun to watch. Finally an election where we feel represented. Here are some special blog-picks we selected:

From American Thinker:

C. Edmund Wright calls it a "Rout" at American Thinker:

The Democrats did not lose a 2-1 squeaker last night. They lost two huge races, saw an overall evaporation of 25 basis points of support -- and lost by nearly 500,000 cumulative votes in the three high-profile elections.

Or put another way, Republicans won two races decided by millions of voters -- and Democrats won a small race dominated by party operatives. In addition, the GOP made some historic gains in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Washington state special elections to boot.

From Contra Obama:

Michelle Malkin comments on NY-23:

Conservatives owe NY-23 candidate Doug Hoffman immeasurable gratitude. He overcame impossible odds (single digits just a month ago) to come within two points of defeating Democrat Bill Owens. Hoffman had zero name recognition. National Republican Party officials dumped nearly $1 million into the race on behalf of radical leftist GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava, who then turned around, endorsed Owens and siphoned off 5 percent of the vote with her name still on the ballot after she dropped out.

Conservatives’ money went to pay for specious attack ads against Hoffman run by the NRCC like this.

Conservatives’ money went to support a GOP candidate who shares the same socialist alliances with fellow SEIU/ACORN/New Party/Working Families Party activist Patrick Gaspard, the Obama White House political director who intervened in the race to secure Scozzafava’s endorsement of Owens.

From iOwnTheWorld:

And John Lott echoes Fox News in their report of ACORN types passing out absentee ballots at a NJ hospital:

The ACORN accusation potentially can be traced in part to an e-mail, allegedly from the husband of a hospital worker, claiming his wife saw and spoke with the activists.

A New Jersey GOP official provided the e-mail to FoxNews.com but could not corroborate its authenticity.

"ACORN is working the hospitals in Orange in Newark. Registering up to 10 people for absentee ballots and submitting it for them on their behalf," the e-mail said.

If true, the official said, this would be a clear "oversight" on the part of the hospital.

New Jersey law allows third parties to collect a limited amount of absentee ballots, but the official said it would be troubling if activists were involved.

"There's no way to tell if there was any pressure involved," the official said.

No pressure whatsoever.

UPDATE: 11.5 7am - Hilarious!

"Dithering"

Dick Cheney made the following comments on October 21st:

Having announced his Afghanistan strategy last March, President Obama now seems afraid to make a decision, and unable to provide his commander on the ground with the troops he needs to complete his mission.

President Obama has said he understands the stakes for America. When he announced his new strategy he couched the need to succeed in the starkest possible terms, saying, quote, "If the Afghan government falls to the Taliban - or allows al-Qaeda to go unchallenged - that country will again be a base for terrorists who want to kill as many of our people as they possibly can." End quote.

Five months later, in August of this year, speaking at the VFW, the President made a promise to America's armed forces. "I will give you a clear mission," he said, "defined goals, and the equipment and support you need to get the job done. That's my commitment to you."

It's time for President Obama to make good on his promise. The White House must stop dithering while America's armed forces are in danger.

Make no mistake, signals of indecision out of Washington hurt our allies and embolden our adversaries. Waffling, while our troops on the ground face an emboldened enemy, endangers them and hurts our cause.

Bravo Mr. Vice President. May we say on behalf of all Americans who give a s**t about the security of this country, we miss you. Click here for the full speech.

The mothers of our soldiers chime in (4min):

Rush Limbaugh's Oct. 29 Morning Update, copied in full:

For over a year, there have been warnings that our military face deteriorating conditions in Afghanistan. Candidate Obama, remember, claimed that if elected, he would withdraw from Iraq, the so-called war of choice, and focus on Afghanistan -- which he said was the "war of necessity."

Well, despite all the promises and all the warnings (including dire pleas for additional troops from Obama's handpicked general on the ground), the military still awaits a decision from their Commander-in-Chief. This week, while they wait, multiple bomb attacks killed more American soldiers, making October the deadliest combat month since the war began after 9/11.

As terrorists become emboldened, the death toll in Pakistan and Iraq is also rising. There was even a deadly terror strike against Iran. The entire region seems to be imploding.

Democrats here upbraided Dick Cheney after he called out Obama for "dithering" in Afghanistan, yet the State-Controlled Media will not ask Obama why his decision is taking so long, or if domestic politics are a factor. Nor do they question the time he spends fundraising, campaigning, golfing (poorly, I might add), playing basketball, attending White House concerts -- while the troops wait... and die.

If you don't like the word "dithering," then come up with another word. But it is clear: neither national security, nor the war in Afghanistan, is top priority for this "young administration", but it is a top priority for our brave fighting troops -- and for the parents of those fallen, who are still waiting, in vain, for presidential leadership.

Cartoons on the topic from Townhall, with text below for those of us with reading glasses...

"It's another "Heads" Mr. President." Obama: "Flip again. We'll make it best out of 2,750."

"You'll have to wait, General... We're planning our strategy against Fox News, First."

Chess Board with all the pieces on Obama's side: "Afghanistan"

Obama: "To be or not to be." General: "Still no decision, huh?"

Soldier: "We just got word from Washington. Obama declared swine flu an emergency."

"68,000 reasons whey the President should "listen to the generals" as candidate Obama promised."

Are there still those that will argue that Democrats aren't weak on national security?

Why do people draw comparisons between Obama and communism?

Take our sexy Commie Obama hat. It lowers the political discourse and distracts from those ofus you that want to solve America's problems for Americans.

Haven't we read over and over that Obama is not a socialist?!

The American Self Emulation - A Must Read
The stars aligned on Friday when Russian blogger Stanislav Mishin at Mat Rodina posted his latest article, The American Self Emulation, Truly a Sight to See.

A depressing article that we wished we wrote, it is rich with crystal-clear predictions based on a long history of suffering and death.

We'd rather post it in full, but here are some excerpts:

It can be safely said, that the last time a great nation destroyed itself through its own hubris and economic folly was the early Soviet Union (though in the end the late Soviet Union still died by the economic hand). Now we get the opportunity to watch the Americans do the exact same thing to themselves. The most amazing thing of course, is that they are just repeating the failed mistakes of the past. One would expect their fellow travelers in suicide, the British, to have spoken up by now, but unfortunately for the British, their education system is now even more of a joke than that of the Americans.

The unfortunate truth here is: the Republicans and Tories are the Menshaviks to the Democrat and Labour Bolsheviks. In other words, they are the slightly less radical fellow travellers who are to [sic] stupid to realize that once their usefulness is done, they will go the very camps they will help send the true opposition to. A more deserving lot was rarely born. Of course half of the useful idiots in the Bolshevik groupings will go to those very same camps.
---
But how will this work itself out? Very simple and the chain of events has been worked out often enough.

[Due to Cap & Trade] First, the serfs will start to scream at the cost of fueling up and the cost of all their goods. The government, ever anxious not to take responsibility, will single out the petroleum factories and oil companies for gauging the people. They will make demands for them to cut prices, which of course means working for a loss. When plants start to close down or move overseas, they will be called racketeers and saboteurs. Their facilities will be nationalized so that the government can show them how to do things properly. Shortages will follow as will show trials and that's as long as the USD holds up and foreign nations are still willing to sell oil and gasoline for other than gold, silver and other hard resources.

When food goes up, and it surely will, as the diesel the farmer uses goes up as well as his fertilizers, the government will scream that the farmers are hording, thus undermining the efforts of the enlightened. There will be confiscations of all feed crops while the farmers will get production quotas to meet or have their land nationalized again. Do not believe me? Look at the people running your governments and ask yourself: would they rather take some one's land or admit that they screwed up and ruined everything? After a point, only the corporate farms will remain, food by oligarch, just a like the factory farms. There will be plenty of dissidents to work them.

We think the only thing missing from this analysis is the fact that the US has elections every two years. Assuming the Americans wake up from, as Mishin calls it, the "non stop chant of "recovery" and hope-change-zombification", Obama and his fellow liberals progressives communists will fail to achieve their envy-driven goals. Assuming...

Let 'em Wait
There are some who think the President shouldn't continue stalling and hesitating and deferring and floundering and straddling and vacillating and waffling and wavering and delaying and demurring and hedging to fill Gen. McChrystal's request for more troops to Afghanistan. But those people are obviously motivated by base partisanship and petty political gain.

Afghanistan
Remember Afghanistan? A bit lower in priority than the Olympics.

Apparently our Dear Leader is waiting for the soldiers to step up and pay for their own health care before giving Gen. McChrystal the 40,000 additional troops requested. The reliable media, aka British media, has this to report:

Barack Obama furious at General Stanley McChrystal speech on Afghanistan
---
According to sources close to the administration, Gen McChrystal shocked and angered presidential advisers with the bluntness of a speech given in London last week.

The next day he was summoned to an awkward 25-minute face-to-face meeting on board Air Force One on the tarmac in Copenhagen, where the president had arrived to tout Chicago's unsuccessful Olympic bid.

The General's bluntness?

He told the Institute of International and Strategic Studies that the formula, which is favoured by Vice-President Joe Biden, would lead to "Chaos-istan".

When asked whether he would support it, he said: "The short answer is: No."

He went on to say: "Waiting does not prolong a favorable outcome. This effort will not remain winnable indefinitely, and nor will public support."

The remarks have been seen by some in the Obama administration as a barbed reference to the slow pace of debate within the White House.

Barbed reference? Slow pace? Surely the General understands the Dear Commander in Chief has priorities.

UPDATED 5PM Found at Contra Obama:

UPDATED 8PM Gateway Pundit offers a not-so-old quote:

"His plan comes up short. There's not enough troops, not enough resources and not enough urgency. What President Bush and Senator McCain don't understand is that the central front in the War on Terror is not in Iraq and never was. The central front is in Afghanistan and Pakistan where the terrorists who hit us on 9-11 are still plotting attacks seven years later."

Senator Barack Obama, On the Bush war strategy, September 9, 2008

And from Jed Babbin at Human Events:

...it’s become clear that the White House will try to compromise McChrystal’s request for 40,000 more troops in favor of a smaller buildup or no buildup at all.

There is no course more dangerous to the lives of our troops -- and our future security -- than to do what President Obama clearly wants to do: apply Lyndon Johnson’s failed brand of indecisive warfare to Afghanistan.

You Are Here
Don Surber offers this graph to show us where we were told we'd be with, and without, the stimulus plan. Of course, we're at 9.8% un-employment today. Click here to read his post.

FoxNews has the real un-employment number of 17%.

If laid-off workers who have settled for part-time work or have given up looking for new jobs are included, the unemployment rate rose to 17 percent, the highest on records dating from 1994.

U/T: Instapundit

UPDATE 10.5 Another graph on the subject by Harvard Prof. Greg Mankiw.

When the Obama stimulus plan was proposed, the president's economic team put out a report in January 2009 that purported to show what would happen with and without the fiscal stimulus. The chart above is from page four that report, together with the actual results over the past couple months. As you can see, the actual outcome is significantly worse than the projection with the stimulus plan and is, in fact, roughly on track with what was projected without the stimulus.

What does this mean? One interpretation is that the fiscal stimulus has failed to achieve what Team Obama thought it would.

The End Must Be Near - UPDATED & BUMPED
The End Must Be Today.

We have nothing more to say about the former senator than what we've said below and in older posts.

We'll be listening for two things in the coming days:
1) What legislation MUST be passed in the senator's memory, and
2) A list of his accomplishments.

Posted 8.20 at 11am:The liberals progressives communists in the state-run old-media didn't get a chance to milk the Cronkite death prior to the event. They won't make that mistake with Ted Kennedy.

Judging by the random appearances of Ted Kennedy pics, and headlines with his name, the end must be near. Unfortunately, Kennedy is a liberal, so on the political front there isn't a life worth commemorating, as there are no accomplishments to point to. If we had to say something nice about the man, it would be something like this:

Ted Kennedy did not propose the idea that US veterans should pay for their own health care.

It just doesn't have a ring to it.

Instead, like the Wellstone funeral, the MSM and their mindless followers will keep the Kennedy story 24/7 now, when he dies, and probably a few weeks thereafter. From today's Yahoo home page:

As you can imagine, we're overloaded with ideas when posting a blog entry about Ted Kennedy. The topics of auto wrecks, failed policies repeated ad nauseam, zero personal responsibility, and Crown Royal come to mind. The Daily Kos and Democratic Underground kids have an equally tough challenge: finding a success that can be attributed to the senator.

Our #1 beef with the senator goes back to 1983-1984. You'll recall, Andropov called Reagan's Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) bluff that he'd deploy the Pershing missiles in Europe if the Soviets didn't remove their missiles in the prison called Eastern Europe. Whoops. Reagan spent most of 1984 deploying the missiles in Britain and W. Germany. This was also a year after Reagan suggested SDI (missile defense), which had commies, and like-minded US senators, in a tizzy.

Through his friend and former Democrat senator from California, John V. Turnney, this Massachusetts senator relayed a message to Andropov with the intent to help the Democrats take the White House in November. (We'd use the words "treason" and "traitor" here, but we don't want to lower the political discourse...) Kennedy, at that time in 1983, considered himself a possible candidate for 1984.

Kennedy's offers to the leader of the Evil Empire, the Soviet Union:

1) Andropov to invite the senator to Moscow where Kennedy could help "arm Soviet officials with explanations regarding problems of nuclear disarmament so they would be better prepared and more convincing during appearances in the USA."

2) "...organize in August - September of this year [1983], televised interviews with Y. V. Andropov in the USA." The intent was a "direct appeal" from a visiting Andropov to the American people. Kennedy offered to arrange these interviews with "Walter Conkite and Barbara Walters."

And our fellow 'conservatives' call us "a right wing nut" and "stupid" for comparing the Democrats to communists.

We Just Didn't Listen!
A mandatory 10-minutes with Glenn:

We have been screaming for a man to tell us the truth, and then when someone tells us exactly what he believes in plain English, we refused to listen to him. Nobody took this man at his word.

The question is: when will you begin? How much more evidence do you need before you wake up an go 'wait a minute, wait a minute, hang on, what's he doing'?

Swasticas: Rush Responds

Rush Limbaugh responded last Thursday to Speaker Pelosi's outrageous claim of anti-socialist protesters carrying swastikas at the recent rallies. It was a great rant that you can read by clicking here. (link lost - sorry)

Barack Obama is losing the trust of the American people. Another similarity, Obama is asking citizens to rat each other out like Hitler did. Obama's the one that's got the snitch website right out of the White House, flag@whitehouse.gov, asking citizens to report people who are saying weird, odd things. You know, the White House responds, "No, no, no, we're not taking names here. We're not taking names. We're just taking people who are putting up faulty arguments and refuting them." Well, that's not the intention.
---
Barack Obama had earned the trust of a majority of Americans. Right or wrong, he was trusted. Those who looked at Obama with clear eyes, however, always knew he was something other than what Obama said he was in speeches and what the State-Controlled Media reported. We knew he wasn't post-partisan. Barack Obama was the Senate's most liberal member. His alliances and associations were exclusively with hard, left radicals. We knew he wasn't post-racial. No one sits in a racially divisive and bigoted church for 20 years without agreement with the message. But people wanted to believe. They hoped love at first sight was the real thing. The American people trusted Barack Obama, but that was then. After Obama's election he has begun to govern, and since he has begun to govern, it isn't just his poll numbers that have fallen. The trust the American people placed in Obama has eroded, and this is key, because if there is no trust with an individual, that person cannot lead. Trust me on this. Obama is losing America's trust.

Vote Karl for Congress
A good use of repaid TARP money:

From the WSJ:

Congress plans to spend $550 million to buy eight jets, a substantial upgrade to the fleet used by federal officials at a time when lawmakers have criticized the use of corporate jets by companies receiving taxpayer funds.

The purchases will help accommodate growing travel demand by congressional officials. The planes augment a fleet of about two dozen passenger jets maintained by the Air Force for lawmakers, administration officials and military chiefs to fly on government trips in the U.S. and abroad.

The congressional shopping list goes beyond what the Air Force had initially requested as part of its annual appropriations.

Hitting back, twice as hard
Following their community organizer's orders to "hit back twice as hard", union thugs are now deployed at townhall meetings across the country.

This is disturbing video. Our reason to post is the same reason why Ushanka.us exists: There are a some brave Americans willing to stand up to tyranny. This is our tribute to them.

From Wednesday's Pravda
Author, Stanislav Mishin - Russian blogger who knows his history:

It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.

True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists.

Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.

First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system...
---
Then their faith in God was destroyed...
---
The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.

Article - link.

UPDATE 5.30: Added Stanislav's link and some more text from the article.

Internal Enemies
This is our second post on the Dept. Homeland Security report on Right Wing Extremism. Post #1 is here.

Here are some early responses from American citizens right wing extremists to the report:

Judge Andrew Napolitano at FOX:
My guess is that the sentiments revealed in the report I read are the tip of an iceberg that the DHS would prefer to keep submerged until it needs to reveal it. This iceberg is the heavy-hand of government; a government with large and awful eyes, in whose heart there is no love for freedom, and on whose face there is no smile.

Jonah Goldberg at Townhall - (Right) Winging it At the Dems:
...it's very sloppy about what qualifies someone as "extremist" in the first place. Basically, it's fancy bureaucratese for: We're guessing bad people will do bad things because the economy is bad and the president is black. But we have no real evidence.
---
... it wrankles a bit that this administration is so squeamish to describe Islamic terrorists as "terrorists" but is promiscuous with the T-word when it comes to right-wing Americans.

The evidence that al-Qaida & Co. are terrorists is widely available, but Napolitano boasts that she calls attacks such as those on 9/11 "man-caused disasters." She says she doesn't want to fuel "the politics of fear." But her own department dubs nebulous and ill-defined Americans as terrorists even though DHS has "no specific information" that they're plotting any attacks.

Oliver North at Townhall - I am an Extremist:
According to the U.S. government, I am an extremist. I am a Christian and meet regularly with other Christians to study God's word. My faith convinces me the prophecies in the Holy Bible are true. I believe in the sanctity of human life, oppose abortion, and want to preserve marriage as the union of a man and a woman. I am a veteran with skills and knowledge derived from military training and combat. I own several firearms, and I frequently shoot them, buy ammunition, and consider efforts to infringe on my Second Amendment rights to be wrong and unconstitutional. I fervently support the sovereignty of the United States, and I am deeply concerned about our economy, increasingly higher taxes, illegal immigration, soaring unemployment, and actions by our government that will bury my children beneath a mountain of debt.

Apparently, all this makes me a "rightwing extremist."

Here are the results in our current survey:

Could our Commie Obama Rally Cap be part of the classified version of this report?

Now Recruiting
Left wing extremists need not apply.

Janet Napolitano's Department of Homeland Security has enough spare time from defending Americans from real threats to imagining threats from Constitution-thumping God-loving Gun-clingers.

Really spare time, or part of a liberal progressive communist plan to create internal enemies to blame for a future crisis? Where is the Cheka when you need it?

Rightwing extremists are harnessing this historical election as a recruitment tool. Many rightwing extremists are antagonistic toward the new presidential administration and its perceived stance on a range of issues, including immigration and citizenship, the expansion of social programs to minorities, and restrictions on firearms ownership and use. Rightwing extremists are increasingly galvanized by these concerns and leverage them as drivers for recruitment. From the 2008 election timeframe to the present, rightwing extremists have capitalized on related racial and political prejudices in expanded propaganda campaigns, thereby reaching out to a wider audience of potential sympathizers.

For the first time, Homeland Security has identified a threat without a plot, without an identified group, without a definition. The defining characteristic: Political ideology similar to America's founding fathers.

Unlike left-wing groups like Earth Liberation Front, PETA, and Weather Underground that target people and property to achieve their ends, the Obama administration chooses to raise awareness of a "resurgence in rightwing extremist recruitment". Look out for those opposed to immigration reform, abortion or a balance between state and federal power.

Check back often. We will post the addresses of the RightWing Extremist Recruitment Stations here, as we find them. We suspect an enlistment in the RightWing Extremist service will require a membership in good standing at Ushanka.us. So join today!

"Obama Is No Socialist"
So says Alan S. Binder, Princeton professor of economics and public affairs, in today's WSJ opinion page. Link.

To avoid a line-by-line destruction of this article, we'll quote sparingly. First, Binder deceives with his own definition of socialism:

Socialism means public ownership and control of businesses, right? So which industries does the president propose to nationalize?

What should we call it when policies push businesses out of business and create an environment where only the government supplies the goods or services? Had Obama said he was going to nationalize an industry, we'd have far more yelling "Socialism" than we do now and he would have had less of a chance to get his vision passed.

Just because Democrat policies are wrong and fail every time they are tried doesn't mean Democrats are not smart.

We suppose Binder would ask us what our definition of Socialism is. We draw a line, with "Full Government Control" at the right end, and "Limited Government as our Founders Envisioned" at the left end. If a policy requires more taxes from the masses, or less market-based options for the masses, or an unfriendly investment environment for the masses, then we move our pen closer to the right end and call that policy socialist.

Binder's definition at the beginning of his article casts the rest of his text as flawed. He summarizes:

So where does all this leave us on the road to socialism? If Mr. Obama is able to get all of these proposals through Congress, the U.S. will have a fully private banking system, propped up with temporary government support; a uniquely American health-care system that covers virtually everyone; and a somewhat more progressive income tax.

If this is socialism, then let's make the most of it.

From our reading, we assume Binder thinks:
1) If 100% of the banks aren't owned by the government, we don't have socialism. (para 3)
2) Government mandated health care is a right, (para 4)
3) therefore, the US should have a health care program like Canada or the UK. (para 5)
4) The taxes to pay for health care are marginal. (para 6)
5) The richer you are, the less you'll pay for health care. (para 7&8)
6) Returning to the Clinton tax rates is ok, (para 10)
7) because maybe we'll have another 1990's-like economic boom. (para 11)
8) "a uniquely American health-care system" requires government management (para 12)

In short, this is an Ivy League Elite defending the leftist agenda of an administration staffed with Ivy League Elites.

This article is written in a vacuum.

His line about national health care costing less for the rich ignores the higher income taxes, capital gains taxes, national debt and other Obama burdens that the rich will suffer alone. It also assumes it will work.

While he gives a poor definition of Socialism, he speaks to, but fails to define, Middle Class or the Rich. Intentional, given that most readers of the WSJ could find themselves in either category?

No reference to history and no reference to the future. History shows commies will take what they can, when they can. Binder does not consider applying this to Obama's trillion dollar grab nor to Social Security, the War on Poverty, etc.. History also shows that socialist policies fail, and liberals' solutions to these failures is to pile on more socialist policies until they bankrupt their country or are driven from power.

We have three assignments for Professor Binder.
1) Identify the part of the Constitution that justifies health-care for all.
2) Justify your confidence of a national health care program with a national initiative authored by Democrats that worked.
3) Look at the decisions President Obama has made. Then, using our definition of socialism, identify which of those decisions increased government power, scope or control, and how many reduced these measurements.
Beware, we will grade objectively. This isn't the Ivy League.

BUZZER -- Your Time Is Up!
Answer: American Democrats, who've created an atmosphere of hate speech and death threats targeted at AIG execs.
---
Which country does the government attempt to intimidate members of the media who oppose its policies?
•Russia
•China
•Venezuela
•America
BUZZER -- Your Time Is Up!
The correct answer is: All of them!
---
Which national leader accuses citizens of his own country of being "greedy" because they're compensated too much?

The Left's Response to the Tea Parties
Here is the voice of the most tolerant. The most merciful. The most bipartisan. Yes, the American Left.

Is there anyone who still thinks it is a good idea to work with these liberals progressives communists?

And to any libs that accidently found themselves at this site - likely attracted by the hammer and sickle in the header - don't waste any bandwidth telling us he doesn't speak for you. Actions speak louder than words, and you both vote the same in each and every election. You were proud to be a Democrat before November 4th. Where is your pride now?

In Cincinnati there were quite a few protesters who knew their US history quite well despite being "misguided, brain-dead, ditto-heads". Don't believe us? Here is a link to our video of that fine day.

Obama's Pledge Drive
It gets creepier by the day. Sweetness & Light have the best write-up of Obama's Community-Organizing-Gone-National. Be sure to click over there and see their full report.

Anyone who is a student of totalitarian regimes, especially Nazi Germany, should recognize this tactic. Mr. Obama has organized his own cadre of Brown Shirts (or, if you prefer, Red Shirts) to agitate for his agenda.

Mr. Alinsky would be proud. And rightly so. For this is simply the continuation of Mr. Obama’s perpetual campaign. A campaign, as we noted at the time, that was modeled on Saul Alinsky’s organizing principles.

Of course, Alinsky, had modeled his methods on the great communist and/or fascist agitators of the past. Hence, the unsettling resemblance to Soviet-style and Nazi Germany agit-prop.

Comrade Update!
Another great Glenn Beck episode. Check out his other enlightened rants at CommieObama.com!

When did socialism become a happy thing for us?

These people may not be taking us on the same road that fascist dictators took the rest of the world on a long time ago. But they are using the same tactics and the same propaganda.

Our very country is at stake. When people use emergencies to quickly shove down programs down our throats without any discussion.

Stimulus, or Reparations?

Ushanka.us is a White Guilt Free Zone. We never owned a slave, never wanted to, and would advise our friends to steer clear of the slave trade. While others may support the government taking money from us non-slave owners to stimulate the economy for those freed, we do not.

Why not take this money from the group that has kept these targeted minorities in shackles (low income housing, low income jobs, etc.) for the past 40 years? The group that fought Lincoln's efforts to free the slaves. The group that fought against the Civil Rights legislation in the 60's. The group that excuses, and even praises, single-parenting - the core reason for the decline in the black family and their current inner-city plight. The group that asks these victims to repeatedly vote for them, but then keeps the victims in dire conditions while claiming to fight their cause.

Put bluntly, why don't these slave owners, the Democratic Party, take responsibility for the damage they've done and pay out of their own pocket?

No stimulus plan will reverse the damage done to the communities Robert Reich mentions. It will take a paradigm shift. An end to excuse-making and handout-expectations.

At least Robert Reich didn't try to hide the intent in poetic nuance.

PUMA
PUMA, or Party Unity My Ass, is something to watch in the next two weeks. PUMA is a movement of disaffected Hillary supporters that reject the unity message of the Obama campaign and the DNC. This movement is pushing Delegates and Super Delegates to either repeat their support for Hillary, or change their vote to Hillary.

PUMA's message is clear: 1) Obama is not electable. 2) Obama was nominated by selection, not election.

Watch for PUMA references in Denver! Here is a taste - a snippet from PUMA PAC:

Gov. Rendell’s pressure on delegates to pipe down and fall in line is just one of many in a concerted, serious, and outrageous effort to hold the Unity Pony in check at ALL COSTS. Delegates in Colorado being threatened with replacement if they sign the 300 Petition; delegates in Kentucky told they will be “primaried” and punished by the Party if they ask for a roll call vote and nomination. And outrageous (and I mean OUTRAGEOUS) pressure on Hillary to RELEASE her delegates immediately in order to KILL the NOMINATION question DEAD.

Howard Stern: "Democrats are Communists"

Say What?!?

From the Business and Media Institute:

“I go, ‘That’s it!’” Stern said. “[I] go, ‘You know what Don, I’ve voted Republican and I’ve voted Democrat. I have vowed I will never vote for a Democrat again. I don’t give a [expletive] – no matter who they are. I don’t care if God becomes a Democrat.’ I said, ‘I backed Hillary Clinton, I backed Al Gore, I backed John Kerry. I am done with them.’”

Stern took it a step even further and called Democrats on the FCC “communists” and referred to their tactics as “gangsterism.”

“The fact that these Democrats on the FCC are communists,” Stern said. “They’re for communism. They don’t want to see companies – this is gangsterism. I said, ‘This is crazy.’”

We learned a long time ago to take the Commie Dems in stride. Howard is still stuck in the Anger phase of the 12-step program. Hang in there Mr. Stern. Step 12 is mockery, and it is so worth the wait!

Nationalize the Refineries?
The suggestion to nationalize the refineries shows the Democrats' true (communist) intentions.

Sure, they'll retort that it was only one congressman, Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), that mentioned it. Of course, Obama hasn't been available for comment on this one...

It is as if they think they already have that 70-seat majority everyone is predicting for November. Hinchey's quote:

We should own the refineries. Then we can control how much gets out into the market.

Change.

Today's Big News
The DNC Dear Leader, Howard Dean, has shown his generosity and graciousness by declaring Florida and Michigan votes will count as half of all other votes. Hillary has 1877.5 delegates to Obama's 2052. Cartoon found at Townhall.com.

And, Senator Obama has declared the start of the general election with his resignation from Trinity United Church of Christ. The practice of Black Liberation Theology and US Flag Burning is deferred until Wednesday, November 5.
