"Generous Legal Punishment"
What will happen if one escapes from prison after refusing to purchase Obama's health insurance, or pay his fines?

Date and location modified from this DailyNK story: Summary Execution of a Runaway from the Camp.

The deserter, when he was still a citizen, pursued his own comfort and profit and embezzled the precious property of the state. For that, he was sentenced to six years reeducation and admitted to Tule Lake No.12 Reeducation Camp in 2013. Having committed an indelible sin against the country and its people, it is only right for the prisoner to admit his offense and take on the reeducating labor faithfully.

However, this person challenged the generous legal punishment, filled his stomach through larceny, neglected his duties and finally betrayed the kind mother country that gave him a chance to repent and ran away. He was, however, detected by the self-conscious people of the village and got caught. Therefore, following the decision of the Democratic People’s Republic of America’s Central Reeducation Department, we sentence him to death!

Is this the change we're supposed to believe in?

Saw in the WSJ Today:
Only news to executives who think saving the company's profits for a rainy day: Page 2, Deal Reached on Bank Crackdown -

A deal between the Treasury Department and a key House Democrat would give the government sweeping new powers to police the country's largest financial companies, including the ability to seize and break up failing companies and order large firms to shrink.
---
The proposal would require financial firms with more than $10 billion of assets to pay for the unwinding of a collapsed competitor. The measure would also give the Federal Reserve the power to direct any large financial holding company to sell or transfer assets or stop certain activities if the central bank determined there could be a "threat to the safety and soundness of such company or to the financial stability of the United States."

What about those unsupervised medium-sized companies?!

What about average Americans with savings? Shouldn't they be told to share their savings for those without?

And why not let the other unions cover the costs of failed pension plans by their peers? We're starting to see the logic here....

Holman Jenkins writes about the pay czar and unintended consequences in his op-ed, Washington's Suicide Mission: The real problem is Washington's riverboat gamble on saving the economy with free money.

Members of the Obama administration have taken turns deploring the billions of dollars in year-end bonuses the finance industry is getting ready to hand out. Never mentioned is what they think firms should do with the money. Give it back to their customers? Spend it on office decorations?

Firms can't just wish away revenue sitting on their books. That's an accounting crime. More to the point, aren't surging banker bonuses amid a general downturn the proximate and necessary outcome of Washington's recovery Heimlich, which involves doling out free money to banks and artificially goosing asset prices?

Er, wasn't this the plan?

Nothing to see here
Why do people draw comparisons between Obama and communism?

Take our sexy Commie Obama hat. It lowers the political discourse and distracts from those ofus you that want to solve America's problems for Americans.

Haven't we read over and over that Obama is not a socialist?!

Here is a cartoon from Richard Oliver at The American Thinker:

New ACORN vid - Philly
Great job of exposing these corrupt ACORN liberals progressives communists for what they are - liars.

And by delaying, these guys exposed the MSM for the hacks that they are. The Philadelphia Enquirer wasn't too enquiring. The Washington Post? CNN? Hacks, one and all.

Some audio drops out. We know those blinded by their leftist ideology will make a case of this, but as an amateur videographer ourselves, it is clearly a hardware failure and not creative editing. Remember, when it comes to mis-quoting others or selective editing, liberals stand alone.

ACORN: The Punchline
San Diego:

The employee, Juan Carlos Vera, was eventually fired. But there was some hesitation among the ACORN management. From the Union-Tribune:

NATIONAL CITY - Local ACORN officials reversed an earlier decision Thursday afternoon and fired a community organizer who was caught on video providing advice about human smuggling to a couple posing as a pimp and a prostitute.

In an afternoon press conference, David Lagstein said he believed his employee, Juan Carlos Vera, did his best to deal with a challenging situation, and would not be disciplined.

But two hours later, Lagstein stated he had reevaluated the videos posted online in which Vera was secretly filmed answering questions about smuggling people across the Tijuana border. Lagstein said in his earlier evaluation, he had only found a short, 52-second video, and not a longer seven-minute video. After consulting with supervisors and state ACORN officials, he decided Vera had contradicted his earlier statements and his conduct was "unacceptable."

As for the punchline that ACORN has become:

Doug Ross has an ACORN employment application - here.

Jay Leno comments - here.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal ordered all state funding to ACORN stopped - here.

And The Jawa Report suspects shenanigans with a recently uncovered ACORN police report - here.

The Trilogy: ACORN in NY
Prior to becoming our Dear Leader, Obama worked for ACORN as an attorney and trainer.

It is to his credit that we can get the same advice regardless of which ACORN office we walk into.

As Mikhail says, "Obama is ACORN".

Today, a third video emerges. This time, an ACORN office in New York City:

Link to FoxNews Story. No stories at CNN or MSNBC, again. Why are some news outlets ignoring a criminal organization that will soon get over $4 billion in taxpayer money? Didn't the media used to do stings like this?

A big Ushanka Tip to James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles.

UPDATE - 10 minutes later...

We continued searching for more MSM outlets that are covering this story. A Google News search shows that FoxNews is the primary for the top three ACORN-related news stories.

We did notice the San Francisco Chronicle link in the top news story. Here is a link to their article, and an excerpt from the objective news organization:

What they reportedly did was go around America on a tour of different ACORN offices posing as pimp and prostitute. According to CNN, most ACORN offices called the police on them with the exception of the Washington and Baltimore offices.

The link that SD Chronicle offers to the CNN article does not mention any case where the police were called.

...the ACORN workers were wrong of course. Do you think I'm going to defend someone giving tax evasion tips to a pimp and his, well, you know. (I can't help but wonder if O'Keefe and Giles were sleeping together during their tour posing as people who were in the sex business. I mean all that talk and travel had to make them horny at some point, right?)

Well. Now the major paper in San Francisco (offering online only now) can say they covered the story.

ACORN, Part II (DC)
Great follow through!

Step 1: Go viral.

Step 2: Go on Glenn Beck's show.

Step 3: Release another whopper the next day.

Here is the same couple in the Washington DC office. Same scam with the same results.

We decided to go to ACORN's website to see exactly what they had to offer. Here is a screenshot:

ACORN
ACORN: Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now.

ACORN will receive $4 billion from the Stimulus package.

When we think of Obama, we think of ACORN.

From this point forward, when we think of ACORN, we'll think of this 18-minute, 2-part video:

Pimps, whores, tax cheats, hypocrites, criminals, liberals progressives and commies. You might say Obama is missing from this video, but he's there.

YouTube might be the end of mainstream liberalism. Hidden cameras, YouTube, and some imagination is all that is needed to put an end to this pseudo communist movement. For those who have to lie and deceive to keep their movement alive, it is just a matter of time.

Following their community organizer's orders to "hit back twice as hard", union thugs are now deployed at townhall meetings across the country.

Fascism in the US
We hope this will be our only post with this title...

It appears the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, has equated those protesting the current health legislation as nazis. From the Speaker's mouth:

It also appears the continuously-campaigning president has created a couple logos to help in his socialized medicine efforts. These images from today's Sweetness & Light:

We found this 3-minute video today on YouTube. Obama's Brown Shirts, by DrDissent:

Found this at today's American Thinker:

We copied this image from Doug Ross' site a while back. Fitting, isn't it?

So, with all this finger-pointing and name-calling, which side is right?

Is it liberals or conservatives who gravitate to leader-worship and a strong, centralized government at the expense of the citizens' rights? We're so busy watching the socialized medicine debate we don't have time to ponder...

UPDATE 4:10pm: Phil Kerpen at Americans for Prosperity offers a rare 2-minute shot back from the right. It appears Rachel Maddow is still trying to explain away the phenomenon that is middle-America's revulsion to Obama's socialized medicine dream.

UPDATE 4:55pm: Rusty at the Jawa Report posted this today:

Operation Vigilant Eagle

From today's WSJ: FBI Seeks to Target Lone Extremists. It appears the FBI has some extra time on its hands, so why not pursue non-criminals that may do something bad based on little to no common traits or behavior? Or, are the traits known, but not acknowledged?

The FBI is "trying to identify a potential lone wolf before he or she would act out violently," Michael Ward, the bureau's deputy assistant director for counterterrorism, said in an interview earlier this year.

The lone-wolf initiative is one element of a broader strategy to fight domestic terrorism, dubbed "Operation Vigilant Eagle," launched late last year in response to what the memo identified as "an increase in recruitment, threatening communications, and weapons procurement by white supremacy extremist and militia/sovereign citizen extremist groups."

Some questions come to mind:

If there is recruitment, how can it be lone-wolf?

Threatening communication should be taken seriously, and we think it is today. Will the FBI change how it responds to these messages today?

Last, don't white supremists already own weapons? Why should the FBI worry about someone buying his 2nd, or 50th, gun?

Neither man appears to have been active in groups that might have tipped off authorities to the danger. In the search for potentially violent individual extremists, "an emphasis should be placed on the identification of individuals who have been ostracized from a group for their radical beliefs," the FBI memo said.

Would that include bloggers that call Obama a "Socialist" or "Communist"? We've been called "Right Wing Nut" and "Stupid" by so-called 'conservative' thinkers (link to posts).

The stepped-up attention to the issue in recent months is part of a broader worry about rising threats and violence from political extremists.
---
... recent lone-wolf cases include the killing of a soldier in Little Rock, Ark., last month, allegedly by a converted Muslim extremist, Abdulhakim Muhammad.

Should we take offense to the "political extremists" label?

Speaking of political extremism, here is today's snapshot of our current Ushanka.us Comrade Survey:

James Taranto comments on lib Paul Krugman's recent warning of right-wing extremists in his NYT column:

There is a bit of truth to what Krugman is saying: The right is generally out of sorts these days, and crackpot conspiracy theories are more prominent than they used to be on the right, just as they were more prominent on the left--often promoted by Krugman himself--during the Bush years. Such crackpottery is baneful, but it is characteristic of parties and political movements when they are out of power.
---
We can think of someone else whose published rants included attacks on "neocons." We won't name names, but the guy is a former Enron adviser. The Washington Post quotes a von Brunn scribbling: "Obama does what his Jew owners tell him to do." That sounds a lot like left-wing extremist Jeremiah Wright the other day, although the Associated Press reports that Wright now says he meant to say "Zionists" rather than "Jews." (Had he consulted the Anti-Semitic Manual of Style, he would have known that "Zionist" is the preferred term when trying to sound respectable.)

Yes, there is a sense in which von Brunn appears to be a man of the "right." But as we've noted, political space is non-Euclidean, so that the extremes on one side tend to converge with the extremes on the other side. Linking von Brunn to mainstream conservatives--even to comparatively truculent ones--is a real stretch.

And Jonah Goldberg comments in his NRO article, A Silly Game of Connect-The-Dots:

But, of course, we have Sarah Palin to thank for von Brunn. So says some genius at the Daily Kos. A competing braniac at the Huffington Post says, “Thank you very much Karl Rove and your minions.” Pretty much the entire media establishment is comfortable labeling von Brunn as a member of the “far right.” Putting aside other objections to that nomenclature, if von Brunn is a member of the far right, then it would be helpful and journalistically responsible if the press would start calling Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, Sean Hannity, et al., moderates and centrists.

That won’t happen, because the whole point of these exercises is to paint the Right as an undifferentiated blob of evil.

Photos - top to bottom:

Theodore Kacynski - Unabomber, Berkeley Professor, Political: probably liberal
James von Brunn - Holocaust Museum shooter, 9-11 Truther, Jew-Hater, Political: probably liberal
Scott Roeder - Dr. Tiller shooter, Pro-Life except when shooting people, Jew-hater, Neocon-hater, Political: Kusinich supporter?
Abdulhakin Muhammad - Shooter of Army recruiters, convicted criminal, muslim convert, Political: probably liberal

Maybe the FBI could find some commonality among the previous nuts to help them narrow their search for the next nuts.

Just because a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then, doesn't mean our tax dollars should be used paying blind squirrels to find the random nut.

And the real worry, the motivation behind this post: those blind squirrels may find others that feel, smell or taste like nuts, and therefore infringe on those non-nuts' freedom. Been known to happen...

Wednesday Afternoon Cigar
Rocky Patel Sun Grown.

More from Atlas Shrugged, P. 915:

What were they thinking now, the champions of need and the lechers of pity? - she wondered. What were they counting on? Those who had once simpered: "I don't want to destroy the rich, I only want to seize a little of their surplus to help the poor, just a little, they'll never miss it!" - then, later, had snapped: "The tycoons can stand being squeezed, they've amassed enough to last them for three generations" - then, later, had yelled: "Why should the people suffer while businessmen have reserves to last a year?" - now were screaming: "Why should we starve while some people have reserves to last a week?" What were they counting on? - she wondered.

We're wondering too.

Universal Stimulus
Obama's Stimulus Pork Bill just passed the Senate. Washington Post reports:

Senators voted 61 to 37 to approve the massive bill, which the Congressional Budget Office now says would cost $838 billion over 10 years. Only three Republicans voted in favor of it. In the House, an $819 billion version of the package passed Jan. 28 with no Republican support.

The plan reverses Bill Clinton's only major domestic accomplishment - welfare reform - by removing the language restricting welfare benefits to a certain timetable. Opinion article in today's WSJ: The Return of Welfare as We Knew It.

Through a little noticed provision of the stimulus package that has passed the House of Representatives, the bill creates a fund for TANF [Temporary Assistance to Needy Families] that is open-ended -- the same way Medicare and Social Security are.

In the section of the House bill dealing with cash assistance to low-income families, the authors inserted the bombshell phrase: "such sums as are necessary." This is a profound departure from the current statutory scheme, despite the fact that, in this particular bill, state TANF spending would be capped. The "such sums" appropriation language is deliberately obscure. It is a camel's nose provision intended to reverse Clinton-era legislation and create a new template for future TANF reauthorizations.

UT Doug Ross for the graphic.

Speed Cameras to Catch Illegal Guns
Illinois takes the Slippery Slope light off of California as the governor has endorsed a plan to install speed cameras on the interstate freeways. Not to catch speeders, which will provide the byproduct of $90 million in state revenue, mind you. No, the purpose for a speed camera in Illinois is to find illegal guns.

See the Sun Times article if you want to hear more liberal-speak about how less freedom and more government control is good.

We guess Illinois is still embarrassed about that whole Jake and Elwood misunderstanding...

Golden State in Decline
A fitting post for our Slippery Slope series, the news from our temporary home state says it all:

July 25 - AP: California bans restaurants from using trans fats

California on Friday became the first state to ban trans fats from restaurant food, following several cities and major fast-food chains in erasing the notorious artery-clogger from menus.

July 29 - AP: Los Angeles wants to take bite out of fast food

The City Council was poised to vote Tuesday on a moratorium on new fast-food restaurants in a swath of the city where a proliferation of such eateries goes hand-in-hand with obesity.

And what did we Californians do in response? We rolled over. Again.

Nationalize the Refineries?
The suggestion to nationalize the refineries shows the Democrats' true (communist) intentions.

Sure, they'll retort that it was only one congressman, Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), that mentioned it. Of course, Obama hasn't been available for comment on this one...

It is as if they think they already have that 70-seat majority everyone is predicting for November. Hinchey's quote:

We should own the refineries. Then we can control how much gets out into the market.

Boumediene v. Bush
We've been, and still are, stunned beyond words at Thursday's ruling giving our enemies access to the US courts as if they were US citizens. Rush summarizes our feelings best in his Monday Morning Update:

On June 12, the Supreme Court bestowed constitutional rights on foreign-born terrorists. The ruling is a chilling demonstration of the American divide; conservative and liberal. Four liberals on the Court -- aided by Justice Kennedy -- grabbed power. Their decision overturned precedent since our Founding that placed the prosecution of wars within the Executive Branch.

Democrats are celebrating the ruling amid warnings that it's going to cost American troops their lives. But this decision has even broader implications. In short order, liberal jurists have turned American law upside-down:

•They have stripped voters of free-speech rights and political debate.
•They have stripped homeowners of rights to their own property -- should politicians decide to seize it for developers.
•They have stripped parents of their rights to discipline their own children, while redefining the very definition of marriage.
•They have ruled illegal immigrants must be accorded the same protections as citizens -- and American taxpayers must support them.
•They have pushed God from the public square.
•They have used junk science to place the interests of animals above those of people.
•They have stripped the most sacred protection -- the right to life -- from infants in the womb.

What power liberals cannot achieve at the ballot box, they seize through the courts. This is the "change" Obama and his fellow liberals desire. And the America they're creating is not the America we know, folks... or an America most of you will even want to know. Buck up.

UPDATE 6.16.08:

Peter Wehner, NRO, "Supreme Disgrace"

And so it has come to this: The United States Supreme Court now routinely invents constitutional rights to support whatever social, political, and legal goals it deems desirable. It is so much easier to legislate from the bench than it is through the branches of government that were created by our Founders to do just that.

But if one is going to invent Constitutional rights out of thin air, it’s worth asking: What moral universe do Justices Kennedy, Breyer, Ginsburg, Stephens, and Souter inhabit when they are willing to manufacture constitutional rights for unlawful enemy combatants who want to slit the throats and watch innocent Americans bleed and die while at the same time uphold manufactured constitutional rights that allow people to abort innocent unborn children?

What the Court decided Thursday was an intellectual, jurisprudential, and moral disgrace, and if John McCain is wise he’ll make this decision a focal point of the presidential race.

Glenn Beck's Fear of Socialism
This is just one of a hundred or more of Glenn Beck's references to the Obamas as Socialists that we've seen in the past two months. Glenn is spot on, and is keeping the momentum on this topic. That is good, because.... we're not hearing the others harp on the most significant agenda theme of the 2008 presidential election. (video: 6 minutes)

Best quote: Guest Mark Steyn on Michelle Obama's expectation that the American people must drop their cynicism - "...if she wants me to shed my cynicism, she's going to have to pry it from my cold dead cynical fingers."

Glenn and Mark should be wearing our hat!

We'll try to capture more Glenn for our archives so when Obama wins in November, we can say 'we told you so'. Assuming, that is, that we get a chance to stand in line together for bread, medical care, gun turn-in, or arugula.
